Our indie spotlight this week is on Zombie with a Shotgun, a new project from Hilton Ariel Ruiz. From the site:
In this Zombie film, the zombie will be the hero and it will have others (zombies) to help out on the war against the humans. The story follows Aaron who isn’t sure if he is infected with the zombie virus or some other infection. He takes this journey with his girlfriend Rachel and his shotgun where they both find out the deep secrets among the zombie virus and their love life
Finally! A zombie flick that actually focuses on … ZOMBIES! What a novel concept. (not sarcasm, I’m actually excited) We follow Aaron who is about to turn into a zombie, and for once, we get to see what goes through someone during a transformation. We are getting treated to see how, during a transformation relationships change. I am currently going through all five of the webisodes, but the ones I have seen is pure genius.
It’s about time we get a zombie movie that actually focuses on the zombie, and not humans. Give this Kickstarter a chance, people. I think you’ll be happy with this one.
This week’s indie spotlight comes from another friend of ours, Jim Rothman. If you get nothing else out of this post, HE IS NOT MATT DAMON. <— see.
Anyways, Jim if the director, writer, and producer of the film that promises no more dumb cliches, just pure horror. Ok, I’m in.
This movie is called Scythe. It’s about a serial killer, known as the Grim Reaper Killer who escapes from prison.
From the website,
On the week of prom night in Concord North Carolina, RONALD WADE, known as The Grim Reaper Killer, escaped a prison transport and breaks into a hardware store, surprising high school student EMILY JOHNSON, the store owner’s daughter. Under the cover of the store’s blackout, a hide-or-be killed cat and mouse game ensues, ending with several stab wounds to Emily’s back with a SCYTHE, the killer’s signature weapon.
A television left on breaks the news of the Grim Reaper’s escape and highlights his exploits, as he swings a scythe at Emily, beheading her. She is his latest victim. And his first mistake.
With prom cancelled and a mandatory curfew in effect, shy teen MEGAN MILLER is forced by her best friend KIM to meet with AMY, VICKY, REBECCA, and JENNIFER after hours at the abandoned pool for a party. At the pool party Megan opens up about her desire to be great, to be worthy of someone worth knowing. This confession leads the girls to bond and build a sisterhood to watch out for one another. Unbeknownst to them outside hovers the Grim Reaper Killer, targeting them as his newest victims.
When young, disgraced FBI AGENT CHRIS GIBSON is tasked with recapturing the killer he encounters the seasoned US MARSHAL JOHN DECKER. After a jurisdictional dispute the two begrudgingly join forces. While examine Emily’s body it is Agent Gibson that discovers the killer’s mistake: this is not the work of The Grim Reaper Killer. It is someone else…
Sounds like this is going to be one HELL of a film, we interview Jim this week on EMZT Radio (Sunday night at 8pm EST with replays at 10pm EST and Thursdays at 8 and 10 pm EST.)
New British independent film, Sackbury Pitch, from filmmaker Dom Morgan , is currently working on raising funds thru crowdfunding at Indiegogo.com
It’s something similar to Blair Witch Project meets Evil Dead, but this one will be scarier because this British filmmaker knows how to scare you more, with very creepy ancient atmosphere of “Sackbury Pitch Woods” and a very scary story of “Old Gentleman Jim” haunting the woods and an abandoned orphanage that three University student filmmakers seek out for their film project.
They have 23 days left, as of this posting, and really need help with getting some funds! please give to this very worthy project! WE DID! WE really want this film to be made! The very minimum goal Dom Morgan is seeking is 500GBP and so far it’s up to 223GBP. I’m sure any amount in the next 23 days will be welcomed and appreciated.
MJ & I did have an awesome Skype chat with Dom talking about this project and we had a very fun time chatting with this very creative guy. I am working on editing the recorded podcast episode that we featured our chat with Dom, stay tuned for when it will be available on our podcast page, EMZT RADIO PODCAST
Yes, we’ve all heard the old jokes about Scandinavian forest rangers and death metal bands. Just as brutal is Swedish horror. Sargad is a new Swedish “revenge” horror. From their Kickstarter: “”Sargad” is about a young woman, Elina, that drives out to a cabin with her mother and younger sister to spread her dad’s ashes. The family used to live in the cabin when they were younger and thinks it is the perfect place to get their dad to rest in peace. They encounter three men that will make their weekend at the cabin a living hell….and yes it will be brutal.”
They promise fans of I Spit on Your Grave and Last House on the Left will love this movie. I’m excited, and we will have Sarah from Bitches of Horror on YouTube on the show this week to help promote this film.
It’s Sweden, of course it’ll deliver. They’re just short of their kr21,000 goal (that’s about $2,000 US). Get to helping these people!
Sargad is the new project by Bloody Fierce Productions, out of Sweden. From their website:
